【摘要】:Thispracticeisusedforgeneralsoilinvestigationswheresamplesarerequiredforidentificationandtesting.DisturbedsamplescanbeclassifiedinaccordancewithPracticeD2487andcanbetestedformoisturecontent,particlesize,andAtterberglimits.Thesamplercanbeequippedwithstackedringliners,whichcanbeuseddirectlyforotherlaboratorytests.Thesamplercanbedrivenwithahammerandthepenetrationresistancecanberecorded.Numerouscombinationsofhammersizeanddropheighthavebeenusedinpractice.Hammersizeanddropheightshouldbereported.Usersofthispracticehavederivedlocalcorrelationsofpenetrationresistanceandengineeringpropertiesbasedonlocalconditionsandaparticularhammersystemandsampler,however,thepenetrationresistancemaydifferfromTestMethodD1586.Theusershouldevaluatesamplequality.Theprocessofdrivingthesamplemaydisturbthesoilandchangetheengineeringproperties.Insoftsoils,useofthethinwalltubesampler(PracticeD1587)willlikelyresultinlessdisturbance.Inhardersoils,soilcoringtechniquesmayresultinlessdisturbance;seePracticeD6151,GuideD6169.Thisstandardaddressessamplingindrillholeswithdrillingequipment.Thesamplercanbehanddrivenordrivenintestpitswithoutdrillingequipment.Ifthesespecialdrivingmethodsareusedthesamplingprocessshouldbereported.1.1Thispracticecoversprocedureforthickwall,splitbarreldrivesamplingofsoiltoobtainrepresentativesamplesofsoilforclassificationandlaboratorytesting.Thesamplerisconsideredtobeathickwallsamplerwithsharpenedcuttingshoeandballcheckvent.Themiddlebarrelsectionisoftenofsplitbarreldesign,butasolidbarrelcanbeusedandbothmaycontainringliners.Thesamplerisoftendriven,butcanalsobepushedinsofterdeposits.Penetrationresistancedatamayberecorded.ThisstandardusesproceduressimilartoTestMethodD1586onPenetrationResistanceandSplitBarrelSamplingofSoils.However,inthispractice,differinghammerweights,dropheights,anddifferentsizesamplersareused,sothedatamustnotbereportedasconformingtoTestMethodD1586andcannotbeusedtodetermineNormalizedpenetrationresistancedataforsandsinaccordancewithPracticeD6066.1.2Thispracticeinvolvesuseofrotarydrillingequipment(GuideD5783,PracticeD6151).Otherdrillingandsamplingprocedures(GuideD6286,GuideD6169)areavailableandmaybemoreappropriate.Considerationsforhanddrivingorshallowsamplingwithoutboreholesarenotaddressed.SubsurfaceinvestigationsshouldberecordedinaccordancewithpracticeGuideD5434.SoilsamplesshouldbeclassifiedinaccordancewithPracticeD2488.1.3Thispracticemayormaynotprovideasamplesuitableforadvancedlaboratorytestssuchasshearorconsolidationtesting.Itisuptotheusertodetermineifthesamplequalityissuitableforadvancedlaboratorytestingforengineeringproperties.DrivensamplescanbemoreeasilydisturbedthanpushedsamplessuchasthethinwalltubeinaccordancewithPracticeD1587.However,thinwalltubescannotbeusedinhardersoils.Incaseswhereithasbeenestablishedthatthequalityofthethickwalldrivensampleisadequate,thispracticemayprovideshearandconsolidationspecimensthatcanbeuseddirectlyinthetestapparatuswithoutpriortrimming.Sometypesofsoilsmaygainorlosesignificantshearstrengthorcompressibility,orboth,asaresultofsampling.Incaseslikethese,suitablecomparisontestsshouldbemadetoevaluatetheeffectofsampledisturbanceonshearstrengthandcompressibility.1.4Thisguidedoesnotpurportt......
